Pirkei Avot

Pirkei Avot is a book that contains many wise Jewish sayings. We will study 12 of them.
Each of you will need to hand in your notes containing the 12 sayings in Hebrew and English and all assignments on Pirkei Avot. Spelling and neatness will count for marks. The due date for handing in your Pirkei Avot notes is Thursday, February 9th (Day 4) at the start of class.

Interview Questions Assignment

You will be interviewing an older person about his or her bar/bat mitzvah. To prepare for this, you will be handing in a list of 20 interview questions.

guidelines
-no more than 5 of the questions should be answerable in one or several words (e.g. ‘Where did your bat mitzvah take place?)
-5 of the questions should be about something other than their bar/bat mitzvah
-typed
-your assignment should have the title: Bar/Bat Mitzvah Interview Questions
-12 point font
-double spaced
-the questions should be numbered

Due date: Friday, November 4th, 2011 (Day 1) at the start of class (-10% per day late)

11-year-old Robber Assignment

Here is your first assignment in EXP. Answer these questions.

1) If you were the judge in a case in which an 11-year-old attempted to rob a bank using a gun, what consequences would you give them? Explain.

2) In your opinion, what are two things that sending a person to jail accomplishes? Describe each of these using at least one sentence. (You may include things that it accomplishes for individuals and for society.)

3) In your opinion, what are two reasons not to send an 11-year-old to jail? Describe each of these using at least one sentence.

You may either use a printer for this assignment, or write it by hand (on lined paper). Include the date at the top left of the page and your name (in Hebrew & English) and class (7-01 or 7-02) at the top right of the page. Include a title (11-Year-Old Robber) and underline it.

Include the questions. Use double spacing, and write using complete sentences. Make sure that your spelling and grammar are correct.

This assignment is due to be handed in at the start of class on Monday, September 19th (Day 4).
[10% will deducted for each day late.]

I hope you all had a good summer and are excited about entering Grade 7. In 'Explorations in Judaism' we will be learning about a lot of different aspects of Judaism in a hands-on way. This will include discussions, readings, assignments, projects, singing, skits, and (of course) juggling.
